D'JOY CHILDREN'S CENTRE

Nature of Service:

Quality full day care for children 2 to 6 years old and before and after school care for 7 to 14 years old.

Capacity:

120

Background of Children:

We cater to children from neighbourhood low income, single-parent or dysfunctional families.  A number of them are referred by the MCYS, social service agencies and schools with problems ranging from social behaviour, learning difficulties to physical and emotional abuses.

Our Needs:

Children's Needs

Government and some self help organizations give financial assistances to children to cover part of their basic programme fee.

But some parents are not able to pay for enrichment or other necessities as uniforms and stationeries.

Extra funding can help children towards:

  • paying for one-to-one leaning programme for children with learning difficulties (under the monitor of an educational psychologist) ,
  • sponsoring school holiday programmes for children who might else be left at home alone on their own ,
  • sponsoring transport by taxi or trishaw for a physically handicapped child (so that he does not need to struggle up and down the buses with his pair of crutches on),
  • purchasing school uniform (that the single-mother does not have the wash the only set everyday and iron dry it for next day's use),
  • buying books and stationeries (that finally these children can process a set of stationery of his/her own),
  • sponsoring a rare treat of children's drama or musical (extra which their parent would not be able to afford)

Centre's Needs:

Centre receives no operation funding from Government.  Our team of skeleton manpower with limited resources but a lot of passion and enthusiasm is trying to provide a quality service to needy.   We can work more effectively and efficiently if there is extra funding to:

  • upgrade IT and audio-visual equipments
  • get better quality teaching materials and teaching aids
  • engage pest control service
  • carry out regular maintenance and repairs.
